Final Stats

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team posted a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Columbia in a non-conference contest at the URI Soccer Complex on Tuesday evening. The win kept Rhode Island's unbeaten streak alive with a 2-0-1 mark for the season.

The two teams battled through a scoreless tie in the first half, although the Rams held a 4-0 shot advantage over the visiting Lions. Early in the second half, freshman standout Melanie Kasparek, the reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, took a pass from fellow freshman Trisha Hewitt on a breakaway and put the shot above a diving keeper to give the Rams a 1-0 lead at the 47:45 mark. That would be the only scoring of the evening as Rhode Island held on for the shutout victory, its second-straight of the season.

Senior Jamie Epperlein made two saves in goal for Rhode Island while Janine Ierardi had three stops for Columbia.

With the win, URI improves to 2-0-1 while Columbia falls to 1-1 for the year. Rhode Island will return to action on Friday, September 13 when it hits the road for a matchup with Marquette at 7:00 p.m.
