Boston, Mass. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team posted an impressive 2-0 shutout victory against Boston University in a non-conference contest at Nickerson Field in Boston, Mass., on Sunday afternoon. The win snapped Boston University's 10-game unbeaten streak at Nickerson Field. It also snapped the Terriers three-game winning streak against Rhode Island.

After a scoreless first half, Rhode Island got the only goal they would need when senior captain Heather Kasparek took a corner kick from Claire Landon and put the ball just to the left of the BU keeper at the 52:07 mark, giving the Rams a 1-0 lead. Heather's younger sister, freshman Melanie Kasparek, added an insurance goal for the Rams, again on an assist from Landon, giving the team a 2-0 advantage at the 83:45 mark. The Rams then held on for the impressive shutout victory.

Senior Jamie Epperlein made XX saves in the victory for URI while XY made XX saves in the setback for the host Terriers.

With the win, Rhode Island improves to 5-2-1 for the season while Boston University falls to 3-3-1 for the year. The Rams will return to action on Friday, September 27th when they host New Hampshire at the URI Soccer Complex at 4:30 p.m.
