KENT, Ohio (AP) - Dustin Hellenga scored 15 points and Brian Woodward added
12 to lift Rhode Island to a 60-49 victory over Kent State on Sunday.
The Rams (6-2) never trailed and responded each time the Golden Flashes
(4-1) got close in the second half.
Dawan Robinson made a 3-pointer and Jamal Wise hit two free throws to give
the Rams a 45-38 lead after an 8-2 run pulled the Golden Flashes to 40-38 with
8:27 remaining.
After John Edwards' jumper brought Kent State to 47-44 with 2:51 left,
Hellenga and Woodward each made two free throws to push Rhode Island's lead to
51-44. The Rams hit 11-of-12 free throws in the final 2:23.
Edwards led the Golden Flashes with 18 points.
Robinson had 10 points for the Rams. Wise added eight points and eight
rebounds.
