Brian Woodward scored a season-high 23 points, grabbed six rebounds and four steals and Dawan Robinson scored 22 and swiped four steals as the University of Rhode Island men's basketball team defeated New Hampshire 82-53 Sunday at the Ryan Center.
Scott Hazelton, a former McDonald's All-American and transfer from UConn, scored 10 points in his first action in a Rhode Island uniform.
Dustin Hellenga dished out a career-high 11 assists and scored six points. Terrance Mack scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Rams played tenacious defense, forcing a season-high 29 turnovers, grabbing 16 steals and scoring 40 points off of turnovers.
New Hampshire hung around during the first half, leading the 10-9 and only trailing by two, 22-20 with 8:09 remaining in the first half. From their it was all Rhode Island as the Rams scored 12 straight points to take a 34-20 lead built up a 45-28 advantage at the half.
In the second half the Rams led by as many as 33 (82-49) with 4:48 to play in the game.
Craig Walls and Shejdie Childs led New Hampshire (3-5) with 10 points apiece.
The Rams improve to 7-2 and return to action on Tuesday night, when they host UNC Charlotte in the Ryan Center at 7:30 p.m.
