SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. - Dawan Robinson scored 31 points, including five in the final 36.7 seconds of regulation, to lead Rhode Island to a 96-90 overtime win over Charlotte.
Charlotte (6-3) led 80-75 with less than a minute remaining in regulation. But Robinson hit a pair of free throws, then a 3-pointer with a man in his face to tie the score at 80-80 with 26.5 seconds to play.
Charlotte led 87-86 in overtime after a Curtis Withers basket with 3:05 to play. But Rhode Island took the lead back, 89-87, on a 3-pointer by Robinson with 2:28 remaining.
Rhode Island (8-2) secured the victory by hitting seven of eight foul shots down the stretch. Chris Holm made three of four and Brian Woodward made all four of his attempts.
Woodward finished with 24 points for Rhode Island. Dustin Hellenga added 17 points and six rebounds.
Withers led Charlotte with 21 points and Demon Brown added 21.
The two teams were tied at 29-all at halftime. Brown led Charlotte with 14 points in the first half, while Robinson scored 14 points in the first half for URI.
