Fast Start Leads Rams Past Duquesne

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Rhode Island jumped out to a 15-0 lead and then held off Duquesne to post a 76-71 victory Saturday.

Brian Woodward led Rhode Island (17-10) with 22 points. Dawan Robinson scored 19 points and Lazare Adingono added 11 for the Rams.

Duquesne (9-20) which trailed by as many as 25 points staged a furious second half rally and cut the lead to 63-60 with 3:51 remaining in the game.

Rhode Island iced the game at the foul line where the Rams were 28 of 39 for the game.

Kevin Forney who fouled out for Duquesne led the Dukes with 14 points and Ron Dokes chipped in with 12 points. Simplice Njoya and Bryant McAllister added 11 points apiece for the Dukes.

Rhode Island will host Monday night in the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament.
