Rams Fall To Northeastern, 42-39

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Anthony Riley ran for 132 yards and Peter Harris added 118 more to lead Northeastern to a 42-39 win over Rhode Island on Saturday.

The Huskies registered 302 yards on the ground while Rhode Island gained 406.

Rhode Island quarterback Jayson Davis ran for 148 and Jason Ham for 136. Rhode Island snapped a 21-21 deadlock with 13 seconds remaining in the first half when Shane Laisle kicked a 38-yard field goal.

The teams traded touchdowns in the opening moments of the first quarter. Harris ran 26 yards for the game's opening score, and Rhode Island countered with a 64-yard run by Ham.

Northeastern, the defending Atlantic 10 co-champion, got the go-ahead score after halftime, taking the second-half kickoff and driving 76 yards in five plays, ending with a three-yard run by Riley.

Rhode Island (0-2, 0-1 Atlantic 10) retook the lead after Ham's second rushing touchdown of the game, a two-yard run. With 1:54 left in the third quarter, quarterback Shawn Brady gave Northeastern a 35-31 lead on a 15-yard run.

Northeastern (3-0, 1-0) added to their lead early in the fourth quarter as Harris ran for a 19-yard score. Davis tallied his first rushing touchdown of the game, a 71-yard keeper with 11:40 remaining.
