Women's Soccer Falls To 19th Ranked Clemson

Greenville, S.C. - The University of Rhode Island dropped a hard-fought 2-0 decision against 19th ranked Clemson on Sunday afternoon in the Select Kickoff Classic Presented by Land Rover at Furman's Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Clemson's Kelly Schneider put the Lady Tigers on top at the 49:21 mark. Schneider beat several Rhode Island defenders before drilling a shot from just outside the 18-yard line.

Clemson's lead was extended to 2-0 at the 57:56 mark when Amanda Garcia headed in a Courtney Foster cross. URI was out shot by a 28-5 margin in the loss.

URI freshman Melissa Bargione had a career-high 12 stops in the setback for Rhode Island.

With the loss, Rhode Island falls to 2-3 while Clemson improves to 5-1 on the season. The Rams will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 21st when they travel to intra-state rival Providence for a non-conference matchup with the Friars at 1:00 p.m.
