SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Jayson Davis rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown as Rhode Island defeated New Hampshire 55-40 Saturday in an Atlantic 10 game at Meade Stadium.

Rhode Island (1-2, 1-1) took the lead for good on a Luther Green 11-yard touchdown run with 4:08 remaining in the first quarter and led by as many as 28 in the third quarter.

New Hampshire (1-3, 0-2) cut the lead to 55-40 with two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter.

New Hampshire quarterback Mike Granieri rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries and completed 24 of 37 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns.

The Rams, who came into the game with the third-best rushing team in Division I-AA, gained 416 yards on the ground. Davis completed 4-of-6 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Rhode Island's Wendall Williams caught two touchdown passes for 24 and 49 yards. Jason Ham rushed for 112 yards on 22 carries.

The Rams' Shane Laisle accounted for 13 points with two field goals and seven extra points, bringing his school-record streak to 84 straight PATs. New Hampshire's Jon Williams caught seven passes for 69 yards and a touchdown.
