KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 overtime decision against Boston University in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night at the URI Soccer Complex.

Boston University got on the board first when senior Rebecca Beyer put a corner kick into the box where it was collected by junior Lauren Ciccone who shot the ball into the lower right corner to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead at the 33:24 mark. BU extended their lead to 2-0 when Beyer connected on a pass from sophomore Melissa Shulman and blasted a shot into the corner of the goal to give the Terriers a 2-0 lead at the 39:48 mark.

Rhode Island cut BU's advantage just before the half when senior Erica Young took a corner kick and put it into the top of the box where sophomore Melanie Kasparek buried a shot into the upper right hand corner to make the score 2-1 at the 43:51 mark. The two teams battled evenly throughout the early stages of the second half. At the 76:48 mark, Melanie Kasparek played a ball to senior Sarah Johnston who was streaking down the left side of the field. Johnston then cut to the middle of the field and put a shot passed the outstretched BU keeper to knot the game at 2-2. Despite chances from both teams down the stretch, regulation ended in a deadlock.

In the overtime session, Shulman capitalized on a Rhode Island keeper and lofted the ball over the URI keeper's head with an unassisted goal to give the Terriers the 3-2 overtime victory at the 96:42 mark.

Freshman Melissa Bargione made seven saves in goal for Rhode Island while senior Jessica Clinton had three stops for Boston University.

With the loss, Rhode Island falls to 2-5 while Boston University improves to 4-3-1. The Rams will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 27th when they travel to Hartford for their final non-conference game of the season at 7:00 p.m.
