BROOKLINE, Mass. (AP) - James West rushed for 115 yards and Shawn Brady
threw for 199 yards as Northeastern forced six Rhode Island fumbles to defeat
the Rams 42-14 in the Atlantic 10 Conference finale for both teams Saturday.
West carried 15 times for two touchdowns and also caught a pair of passes
for a total 100 yards. Brady, a senior, finished his collegiate career with 12
completions on 23 passes with no interceptions to lead the Huskies (5-6, 4-4).
The Rams (4-7, 2-6) were led by Jason Davis, who completed eight of 14
passes for 121 yards and one interception. Jason Ham finished with 72 rushing
yards on 18 carries for Rhode Island, which opened scoring in the first quarter
on Davis' 1-yard run to cap a five-play, 45-yard drive. Davis returned to the
lineup after missing two and a half games with an ankle injury.
Northeastern tied the score late in the first quarter when Gavin Potter
recovered a Rams fumble and ran 19 yards for a touchdown.
Northeastern took the lead for good in the second quarter on Brady's 5-yard
touchdown pass to Shane Hopkins.
In the third quarter, Northeastern put the game out of reach with four
unanswered touchdowns, including Marc Thomas' 93-yard kickoff return.
