NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - Steve Burtt scored 19 points and Ricky Soliver
added 17 to lead Iona past Rhode Island 77-62 Monday night.
Marvin McCullough had seven points and seven assists for the Gaels (4-6),
who have won two in a row following a five-game losing streak.
Scott Hazleton had 20 points to lead the visiting Rams (2-7). Tyrese
Sullivan and Jamaal Wise scored 12 points each for Rhode Island.
The lead changed hands seven times in the first half before Iona pulled away
to take a 38-29 lead at halftime.
Hazleton's basket with 10:59 left pulled Rhode Island within a point at
52-51 but the Rams were not able to tie the game. Iona responded with a 12-3
run and McCullough's basket with 6:53 remaining gave the Gaels a 64-54 lead.
Rhode Island made just 11 of 26 free throws in the game, while Iona was
11-of-13 at the line.
