SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island quarterback Jayson Davis ran for
three touchdowns as the Rams beat Central Connecticut State 39-7 on Saturday.
Davis scored on runs of 3, 11 and 4 yards, as Rhode Island (2-0) took a 20-0
halftime lead with three second-quarter touchdowns and was never challenged in
its home opener.
Davis ran for 68 yards on 13 carries, while Jason Ham led the Rams with 133
yards on 20 attempts and two touchdowns. Marquis Morrison had the lone score
for CCSU (1-1) on a 21-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Jerell Jones added a touchdown run for Rhode Island, which gained 395 yards
rushing on 67 carries and held a 488-203 advantage in total yards. The Blue
Devils only converted 4 of 15 third-down conversions and wee held to 16 first
downs to 29 for Rhode Island.
Timothy Sheard gained 76 yards on 14 carries to lead CCSU.
