HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Bobby Seck threw eight touchdown passes to tie an
Atlantic 10 Conference record and set a Hofstra record as the Pride beat Rhode
Island 62-43 on Saturday.
Seck matched the A-10 mark set by Tom Ehrhardt of Rhode Island in a 56-42
victory over Connecticut in 1985.
The eight TDs bettered the Pride record of six by Rocky Butler in a 55-28
triumph over Albany, N.Y., in 2000.
Seck finished 30-for-43 for 560 yards, missing the school record of 585 set
by Tim Lynch in 1991.
Chris Onorato kicked eight conversions for the Pride (2-1, 1-0), to become
the fifth player in school history to achieve the feat. Devale Ellis caught
three of Seck's scoring passes good for 19, 5 and 55 yards. He had seven
receptions for 115 yards.
Isaac Irby had TD receptions of 6 and 58 yards and four catches for 104
yards. Brian Wolman also caught scoring passes of 35 and 18 yards for 107 yards
on five receptions.
Hofstra's Charles Sullivan was the top receiver with 213 yards on 12
receptions, including one touchdown catch for 40 yards.
Jayson Davis connected on 15 of 27 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns
for the Rams (2-1, 0-1). Intercepted once, he rushed for 158 yards on 19
carries.
Two of the TD passes were good for 65 and eight yards to Calvin Poole.
Jarell Jones rushed for three touchdowns of 65, 5 and 3 yards and finished with
88 yards on 10 carries.
The 3-yard TD by Jones gave Rhode Island its last lead of the game, 29-28,
at 3:31 in the second quarter. Seck followed with his 5-yard strike to Ellis at
4:18 to give the Pride the lead for good, 34-29.
Pat O'Brien recovered a Ram fumble in the end zone at 1:30 for a 41-29
halftime lead.
