Women's Soccer Wins 1-0 Against American

The women's soccer team had its first win of the season today as they shutout American University (1-1-0) in a 1-0 victory in the James Madison Tournament. The Rams (1-2-0) took the lead in the 11th minute when rookie Thorunn Helga Jonsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored the difference making goal in the 1-0 win over the Eagles. Junior Megan Kasparek (Trumbull, Conn.) assisted the goal with a pass ahead to Jonsdottir, who scored on a breakaway at 10:45. Goalkeeper Ria Carroll made three saves in net and was faced with eight shots, while American goalkeeper Alison Doyle made 11 saves and was busy with the 17 shots on goal by the Rams. The Rams will be back in action on Monday, September 6, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. where they will face the James Madison Dukes.
