RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Jamaal Scott had his first double-double of the season
with 15 points and 13 rebounds as Richmond overcame shaky shooting to defeat
Rhode Island 65-55 Saturday night.
The Spiders (6-8 1-2, Atlantic 10) took the lead for good during a 7-0 run
late in the first half that was capped by a Scott layup, giving the Spiders a
26-20 lead with 3:56 remaining. Richmond went on to lead 32-25 at half time.
Neither team shot 30 percent in the second half. The Spiders were 6 for 26
and the Rams 9 for 32. Richmond pulled away, hitting 19-of-24 foul shots in the
second half.
The Rams (3-11 1-2) were led by Scott Hazelton with 18 points and Terrence
Mack added 13.
Daon Merritt added 15 points for the Spiders, while Jermane Bucknor had 14
and Courtney Nelson had 10.
