Football Falls Short To Towson, 23-14

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Senior quarterback Jayson Davis moved into first place on the Rhode Island career scoring list but it was Towson overcoming the Rams, 23-14, this afternoon in Atlantic-10 football action at Meade Stadium. 

An end around by Towson's Andre Brown from the Rhode Island 14 yard line tied the score at 7-7 after Davis opened the scoring on a keeper from eight yards out in the first quarter.

Calvin Poole's one-yard touchdown run put Rhode Island (3-3, 1-2 Atlantic 10) ahead 14-10 in the third quarter, after Towson's Ron Halbruner kicked a 30-yard field goal.

Towson (4-2, 2-2 A-10) reclaimed the lead for good at 1:17 of the third quarter when Tigers quarterback Sean Schaefer hit Brown with a 14-yard scoring strike, making it 16-14.

Schaefer completed 17 of 28 passes for 146 yards. Kerry Miles ran for a one-yard touchdown with 5:19 to play to close out the scoring.

Davis rushed 27 times for 102 yards for Rhode Island. His first-quarter touchdown moved him to the top of the Rams career scoring list with 234 points.

Nick Williams carried 26 times for 78 yards for Towson. Brown had five receptions for 65 yards, and ran four times for 27 yards.
