WOMEN'S SOCCER SHUTS OUT CHARLOTTE, 2-0, ADVANCES TO A-10 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

DAYTON, Ohio - Rhode Island freshman midfielder Dora Larusdottir scored a pair of goals to advance the Rams past Charlotte, 2-0, in Atlantic 10 women's soccer semifinal action at Baujan Field, Friday night.

Rhode Island (11-5-2, 7-1-1) senior goalkeeper Kirsten Marra had five saves including blocking a Charlotte (11-9-0, 7-4-0) penalty kick in the 69th minute of the game. Marra notched her first win and shutout of the season with in Rams victory over the 49ers.

"I'm proud of Kirsten she really stepped-up in the net and played well after not having started a game all year," said head coach Zac Shaw.

Senior midfielder Megan Kasparek assisted in her team leading ninth goal of the season to give the Rams the 1-0 lead at the 19:05 mark in the first half.

Larusdottir connected with fellow compatriot sophomore Thorunn Jonsdottir to score her second goal of the game and seventh of the season with 23:19 left in regulation.

URI tallied 22 shots on the night, Megan led the team with six followed by Larusdottir with five.

The Rams will be facing the winner of the other semifinal game between Saint Louis and host school Dayton. The Atlantic 10 Championship Game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Baujan Field.
