ROBINSON'S CAREER NIGHT LEADS MEN'S BASKETBALL TO 87-72 VICTORY

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island senior guard Dawan Robinson scored a career-high 37 points to lead the Rams to an 87-72 win over Quinnipiac in men's basketball on Thursday night.

Robinson made 14 of 21 shots from the floor and also had five rebounds, five assists and five steals.

He had nine points as the Rams (6-3) went on a 17-0 run in the first half that turned a 19-18 deficit into a 35-19 lead.

Sophomore forward Will Daniels, who tallied his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds, hit a layup with 6:41 left in the first half to start the run, and junior forward Darrell Harris followed with a dunk after a missed shot. Robinson scored seven consecutive points to close the run.

Quinnipiac (5-4) ended the first half with a 13-3 run to pull within 38-32 at halftime.

Chris Wehye and John Winchester led the Bobcats (5-4) with 15 each, while Van Crafton added 14.

Quinnipiac pulled ahead early in the second half, but Daniels tied the game 49-49 with a pair of foul shots with 14:16 to play, then hit a three-pointer to give the Rams the lead for good with 13:47 left.

With the victory Rhode Island matched its win total of all of last season.  After playing five-straight home games, URI hits the road to play Houston on Tuesday (Dec. 27) at 8:00 EST.
