Davis Explodes For Five Touchdowns As Rams Down Tribe

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Quarterback Jayson Davis ran for three touchdowns and passed for two, leading Rhode Island past William & Mary 48-29 on Saturday.

Rhode Island (3-0, 1-0 Atlantic 10), trailing 14-0 late in the first quarter, scored three unanswered touchdowns to take the lead for good.

Davis hit Keith Brown with a 43-yard pass with 3:43 remaining in the first quarter for the Rams' first score. Davis then scored twice within the first three minutes of the second quarter, on runs of 13 and 10 yards.

William & Mary (1-2, 0-1) pulled within 21-20 at halftime when Greg Kuehn kicked field goals of 50 and 35 yards.

But Joe Casey scored on a 21-yard run and Kyle Edwards caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Davis as the Rams pulled to a commanding 34-23 lead after three quarters. Casey led the Rams with 144 yards rushing.

Davis ran for a 2-yard score in the fourth quarter to make it 41-23.

William & Mary jumped to a 14-0 lead on Elijah Brooks' 6-yard run at 11:40 and a 49-yard touchdown pass from Mike Potts to Joe Nicholas with 5:33 to go in the first quarter.

Rhode Island compiled 578 yards of total offense.
