Katie Halcomb pitched a complete game for the Rams allowing just one run on four hits. Stefani Poedubicky went 3-for-4 from the plate and Jamie Plamondon went 2-for-3 in game one.
The lone run scored in the first game came off a RBI double by Brown's Kelsey Wilson in the top of the sixth. She recorded two of the four hits given up by Halcomb (8-9). Katie registered five strikeouts and allowed only one walk in the losing effort. Brown starter Michelle Moses picked up the win, throwing seven innings of shut out ball to lead the Bears.
Rhode Island jumped on the board in the first inning of game two after Brown pitcher Kristen Schindler hit three Ram batters to load the bases and then walked Alyssa Martino to give the Rams the early 1-0 advantage.
Brown tied the game up at one in the second off a Jill Anderson wild pitch, plating Melissa Ota. The Bears added four more in the fifth and two in the seventh to give them seven runs in game two.
Rhody mounted a small comeback in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs on two hits. Poedubicky and Danielle Quimby both crossed the plate after a Brown error to make the final score 7-3.
Rhode Island (15-20) next travels to Saint Louis for an Atlantic 10 doubleheader set to start at 3:00 p.m.
