Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior Geoffrey Cameron (Attleboro, Mass.) flicked a high header over Xavier goalkeeper Adam Sokolowski with less than ten minutes remaining in regulation as the Rhode Island men's soccer team opened its Atlantic 10 schedule with a 2-1 victory over the Musketeers, Friday night at the URI Soccer Complex. With the win, the Rams maintain their perfect record when facing Xavier in Kingston, improving 6-0-0 all-time against the Musketeers at URI.

Rhode Island controlled play and maintained possession through most of the first half, taking 15 shots to Xavier's two. However, it was Xavier that got on the board first as Brandon Bucher found the back of the net off a pass from Kennedy Nakwa at the 39:53 mark.

Rhody got the equalizer in the 60th minute when senior Dawid Badecki (Jelenia Gora, Poland) and junior Kedan Crosby (St. James, Trinidad) traded passes before finding senior Lukasz Tumicz (Bisztynek, Poland) on the right side of the goal. Tumicz blasted a shot past Sokolowski and into the left corner of the net to knot the score at 1-1.

Xavier's best chance at regaining the lead came in the 70th minute when Jake Vollmer fired a hard shot that ricocheted off the far post.

The Rams went on to net the game-winner at 80:13 when senior Danleigh Borman (Cape Town, South Africa) served a ball toward the front of the net where Cameron headed his first goal of the season over Sokolowski for the 2-1 victory.

For the game, Rhode Island outshot Xavier, 27-8, and held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks. The URI defense limited the Musketeers to just one shot on goal.

Tumicz had a game-high 10 shots for the Rams while Cameron added five and Badecki took four.

With the win, Rhody improves to 3-6-1 (1-0-0 Atlantic 10) and Xavier falls to 4-7-0 (0-1-0 Atlantic 10).

The Rams return to action on Sunday, Oct. 14 when they host Dayton (6-2-2, 0-1-0 Atlantic 10) at 1:00 p.m. The game will be televised on Cox Sports Television, via tape delay, Monday night at 10 p.m.
