Box Score

RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Chris Pennock (Middlesborough, England) recorded five saves and picked up his second shutout of the season as the Rhode Island men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie in a non-conference match at Richmond, Sunday afternoon.

"We played well today," said head coach John O'Connor. "Obviously we'd like to get the win but I'm happy with that I saw out there. We controlled the ball for the majority of the game and generated a lot of chances. I think we're in great shape right now - heading into the conference schedule."

Senior Geoffrey Cameron (Attleboro, Mass.) and junior Kedan Crosby (St. James, Trinidad) led the Rams in shots with five and four, respectively. Seniors Dawid Badecki (Jelenia Gora, Poland) and Steve Mellen (North Kingstown, R.I.) and junior Adam Howarth (Isle of Wight, England) also added to the offensive effort with three shots apiece.

For the game, Rhode Island outshot Richmond, 23-13, and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

With the draw, Rhody moves to 2-6-1 overall and while the Spiders' record goes to 3-6-1.

The Rams return to action next weekend when they open the Atlantic 10 slate with home games against Xavier (Friday, Oct. 12 at 6:00 p.m.) and Dayton (Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:00 p.m.).
