Box Score

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Rhody sophomore right fielder Tara Hiteman went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while junior second baseman Danielle Quimby went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI single in the sixth inning, but it was Appalachian State holding on for a 6-5 victory over URI in the final round of the Tar Heel Invitational, hosted by North Carolina.

URI (0-4) scored a pair of runs in the second inning on RBI singles by junior left fielder Shelly Peterson and freshman center fielder Jackie Kampanier.

ASU answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning, before another Rhody run in the top of the third on an RBI single by junior third baseman Christine Gentile made it a 3-2 game.

ASU would forge ahead with three runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead.

Quimby's two-run single in the top of the sixth inning made it a one-run game, 6-5. The Rams had a shot at winning the game in the seventh inning, loading the bases with two outs, but were unable to plate any more runs.

The Rams return to action next weekend at the Maryland Invitational, taking on Centrall Connecticut and the host Terrapins on Friday (March 9) and Princeton and Louisville on Saturday (March 10).
