Men's Soccer Falls to Hartford, 1-0

Sept. 28, 2007

Box Score

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Rhode Island men's soccer team suffered a tough 1-0 loss to Hartford on Friday night, Sept. 28, in West Hartford, Conn. Despite outshooting the Hawks by a 10-7 margin, the Rams were unable to find the back of the net through 90 minutes of regulation.

The Rams got off to an aggressive start and it appeared as though junior Kedan Crosby (St. James, Trinidad) would put Rhody on the board in the game's first two minutes when he collected his own rebound and, with Hartford goalkeeper Matt Glaeser out of position, fired a shot at the empty-net, but was robbed by a Hawks defender who prevented the ball from crossing the goal line.

Hartford went on to net what proved to be the game-winner 14 minutes later when Oswald Adu crossed a pass to the right side of the net where Daniel Antunez headed the ball past sophomore goalkeeper Chris Pennock (Middlesboro, England) for the 1-0 advantage.

Senior Lukasz Tumicz (Bisztynek, Poland) nearly knotted the score with 4:30 left in the first half on a set-up by classmate Danleigh Borman (Cape Town, South Africa) but Glaeser made a diving stop to preserve the Hawks' lead.

Neither team found the back of the net in the second half, ending the game with a 1-0 Hartford victory.

The Rams return to action on Sunday, Sept. 30, when they host Maine at 3:30 p.m.
