Brigham Young Defeats Rams, 9-3

ST. GEORGE, UTAH - The University of Rhode Island softball team suffered a 9-3 loss to Brigham Young Saturday afternoon at the Red Desert Classic. Sophomore Darci Borden (Emla, Wash.) accounted for all three URI runs (0-3).

Trailing 3-0 in the third, Borden ripped a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, the Cougars answered with four runs in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and six to push the lead to 9-2.

In the seventh, Borden's RBI groundout in the seventh plated Amie Archambault (Portsmouth, R.I.) made the final score 9-3.

Jessica Purcell, Emi Snow Willing, and Angeline Quiocho each drove in a pair of runs for the Cougars.

Paige Affleck earned the win for BYU, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out seven. Senior Jill Anderson (Cohoes, N.Y.) allowed 15 hits and nine runs (six earned) while walking three and striking out three.

Earlier in the day, the Rams faced Utah Valley, the results of which were unavailable at press time.
