Runnin' Rams Shoot Past Rhode Island College, 101-76

KINGSTON, R.I. - Three Rams scored in double figures as the Rhody men's basketball team defeated Rhode Island College to 101-76 Tuesday night at the Ryan Center to conclude its exhibition season.

Senior guard Keith Cothran led the Rams as he scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting from the field.

Junior forward Delroy James and senior forward Lamonte Ulmer also chipped in with 23 and 16 points, respectively. Ulmer and junior center Will Martell each pulled down nine rebounds.

URI outrebounded RIC 59-30 and held a 62-31 points in the paint advantage as it improved to 2-0 in the exhibition season. In its two exhibition games, Rhody outscored its opponents 194-130.

Defensively, Rhody had 13 steals and nine blocks. Five of those rejections came from sophomore forward Orion Outerbridge.

Rhody led by as many as 29 points in the second half and never let RIC get any closer than 19 points.

In the first half, the Rams jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first four minutes of the game.

Rhody would then increase its lead 22-8, but the Engineers would not go away as they fought back to cut the lead to 30-22 with just under seven minutes in the opening half.

URI would then close out the half on a 22-10 run to take a 55-32 lead into the locker room. Rhody shot 55 percent in the first half from the field and held RIC to 37.1 percent shooting from the field.

Rhody opens its 2009-10 regular season next Wednesday as it travels North to take on in-state rival Brown at 7:30 p.m.
