Softball Falls Twice on the Road to Boston University

BOSTON, Mass. - The Rhode Island softball team (6-16; 1-1 Atlantic 10) dropped a pair of games on the road to Boston University, falling 6-3 in game one and 5-1 in game two.

In game one, Rhody fell behind early as the Terriers plated one run in the bottom half of the first to take a 1-0 lead. URI fought back in the third as it scored three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

Junior Shauna Hobbins (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and freshman Brittany Julich (Kings Park, N.Y.) drilled back-to-back RBI singles with the bases loaded and two outs to give the Rams the lead. Julich currently leads the team with eight RBIs.

In the bottom of the fourth, BU scored five runs to reclaim the lead and secure the victory, holding Rhody scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Freshman Catherine Smith (Lawrence, Kan.) started the game for Rhody, but suffered the loss as she allowed four runs over 3.0 innings.

In game two, the Terriers scored one run in the first and four in the third inning as they went on for the doubleheader sweep.

Rhody's lone run came in the top half of the third as junior Leah DiBussolo (East Norriton, Pa.) singled to centerfield to score sophomore Amanda Sbei (Collegeville, Pa.) from second base.

Freshman Alison Hartzell (Easton, Pa.) took the loss after she allowed four runs on eight hits over 6.0 innings of work.

Rhody returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Bryant. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
