Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island softball team (12-29; 1-9 Atlantic 10) collected its fifth win in its last six games as it defeated Bryant 4-3 in eight innings Saturday afternoon at the URI Softball Complex.

Freshman pitcher Alison Hartzell (Easton, Pa.) picked up her third straight win and evened her record to 9-9 on the year. Hartzell earned the win after she worked 2.0 innings and struck out a pair of batters.

Offensively for the Rams, junior Leah DiBussolo (East Norriton, Pa.) led the way as she went 3-for-4 with three singles.

Rhody took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the third thanks to a RBI single by junior Melissa Wilson (Longview, Wash.), which scored freshman Courtney Prendergastt (Babylon, N.Y.) from second base.

Two innings later, Bryant tied the game, but URI quickly reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the frame as Prendergastt scored from third on a sacrifice fly by junior Darci Borden (Elma, Wash.).

Bryant would not go quietly as it tied the game in the top of the sixth. After a scoreless seventh, the game went into extra innings. In the extra frame, Bryant reclaimed the lead, but in the bottom of the inning, junior Jackie Kampmeier (East Norriton, Pa.) tied the games she drilled a one out triple down the right field line, which scored Hartzell from third.

Kampmeier would then come around to score the game-winning run on a passed ball.

Rhody returns to action on Sunday as it welcomes George Washington in doubleheader, beginning at Noon.
