KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior guard Keith Cothran scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Rhode Island men's basketball team to a 75-67 win over Duquesne Wednesday night at the Ryan Center.

Cothran was one of five players, who finished the game in double figures. Junior center Will Martell, senior forward Lamonte Ulmer, freshman guard Akeem Richmond and junior forward Delroy James finished the game with 12, 11, 10 and 10 points, respectively.

Ulmer also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds to pick up his fourth double-double on the year and the fifth in his career. Six of Ulmer's boards were offensive rebounds.

The last time URI had five players in double figures was back on Dec. 13, 2009 when the Rams defeated Boston College on the road. This season, Rhody has had five players score in double-figures on five separate occasions. The Rams hold a 4-1 record in those games.

Defensively, Rhody forced Duquesne into 19 turnovers and blocked nine shots, which tied a season-high.

Rhode Island raced out to a 9-2 lead in the first two minutes, capitalizing off three Duquesne turnovers. Marquis Jones would then drill a deep 3-pointer to give URI a 14-6 lead.

Duquesne responded with a 10-2 run over the next 3:03, paced by six points from Damian Saunders, tying the game at 10:59 mark. Saunders finished the game with team-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

URI would then go on to lead for the remainder of the half as it took a 35-29 lead into the locker room. Cothran had a team-high 12 points at the half.

In the second half, Duquesne came out firing and the Dukes took a 47-45 lead with 12:54 to go in the game to take its first lead of the game since 19:35 remaining in the first half.

Over the next nine minutes, no team would lead by more than four points. In the final three minutes, URI outscored Duquesne 11-3 to secure the win.

Rhody returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Xavier. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
