Final Stats
CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Lamonte Ulmer and Keith Cothran scored 12 points apiece and Delroy James added 10 as Rhode Island dropped a 72-61 decision at Xavier.
Ulmer connected on 6-of-9 from the floor, while Cothran added four rebounds and four steals.
Rhody (15-3; 3-2 A-10) did not trail in the first half, gaining as much as a five-point lead off a steal and fast break layup from Akeem Richmond. A putback by Xavier's Jamel McLean as time expired made it 29-26 URI at the break.
In the second half, Rhode Island extended its lead to seven points - after two Marquis Jones free throws made it 35-28 with 17:57 left in regulation. But a 10-0 Musketeers run over the next 1:24 - keyed by eight points from Jordan Crawford - gave Xavier the lead for good.
Orion Outerbridge's jumper with 13:00 to play tied it at 43-43, but that was as close as the Rams would get. Xavier would extend its lead to double-figures, taking a 13-point lead late in the contest.
Jones chipped in with eight points (8-8 FT) and three rebounds, while Outerbridge added eight points - all in the second half.
For the game, Rhode Island shot 40.7% from the floor en route to its lowest scoring output of the season. The Rams were outrebounded, 39-29, and forced 18 Xavier turnovers - translating to 17 points.
Rhody returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 26 when it travels to face Dayton. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game can be seen live locally on Cox Sports Television.
Steve McDonald and Don Kaull will provide the call live on the Beltone New England Rams Radio Network, beginning with the Cox pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. on B101 (101.5 FM).
