CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Rhode Island women'
volleyball team (11-5; 2-2) dropped a 3-1 decision to Xavier on
Saturday afternoon at the Cintas Center.
Freshmen Britta Baarstad
and Jill
Anderson led the way offensively for the Rams as they combined
for 21 kills. Baarstad tallied 12 kills, while Anderson recorded
nine terminations.
Defensively for Rhody, junior Kayla Wilson led the
way with 15 digs. Sophomores Ashley Tennant and
Annie Nelson
also chipped in defensively with 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Musketeers outhit the Rams .302-.156. XU also held a 10-4
advantage in blocks.
Xavier jumped out to a 1-0 lead as it claimed a 25-14 lead.
Rhody fought back in the second set as it posted a 25-22 victory,
but Xavier responded in the third (25-23) and fourth (25-21) sets
to close out the Rams.
Rhody returns to action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as it travels to
in-state rival Providence.
