Rhody Comes Up Short Against Fordham, 3-2

KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior Kayla Wilson had a team-high 14 kills, but the Rhode Island women's volleyball team (11-11; 2-7 Atlantic 10) still fell short Saturday afternoon at Keaney Gymnasium as it fell 3-2 to Fordham.

Sophomore Rachel Zarazan also chipped in offensively for the Rams as she totaled 13 kills. Junior Candice Kolkka had a strong showing for URI as she dished out a season-high 39 assists. Defensively for the Rams, sophomore Ashley Tennant posted a team-best 12 digs.

Fordham opened the match with a 25-15 victory in game one, but URI responded by winning the next two sets 25-23 and 25-16, respectively. Fordham forced a fifth game as it downed URI 25-19.

In the fifth game, Fordham jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but Rhody fought back and won seven of the next 11 points to cut the Rams' lead to two points at 9-7, but that was as close as Rhody would get. Fordham went on to a 15-12 victory to close out the match.

Rhody returns to action on Friday as it travels to Fordham. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
