KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's
volleyball team (12-12; 3-8 Atlantic 10) dropped a 3-0 decision to
Duquesne Sunday afternoon at Keaney Gymnasium.
Freshman Britta Baarstad
and sophomore Rachel Zarazan
each tallied double-digit figures in kills, recording 11 and 10
terminations apiece. Sophomore Ashley Tennant led
the way defensively for the Rams as she posted 14 digs.
Duquesne opened the match with a 25-18 victory, outhitting the
Rams .297-.119. URI held a 12-10, but the Dukes charged back to
take a 16-14 lead. Rhody would not lead for the remainder of the
set.
In the second frame, URI fell behind 6-1 in the early going and
were unable to recover as Duquesne went on to a 25-17 victory to
take a 2-0 match advantage. Duquesne closed out the Rams in the
third set as it outhit URI .262-.000.
Rhody returns to action on Friday as it heads to Temple. The
match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
