PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Kayla Wilson had a
team-best 16 kills on .275 hitting, but it was not enough as the
Rhode Island women's volleyball team fell 3-2 at Providence Tuesday
night.
With the loss, Rhody falls to 11-6 on the year, while Providence
improves to 9-12.
Senior Lauren McIntosh
and freshman Jill Anderson also
chipped in offensively with 13 kills apiece. Sophomore Annie Nelson added
51 assists.
Defensively for the Rams, sophomore Ashley Tennant had
a team-best 26 digs. Anderson also made her presence felt on the
defensive end with a match-high seven blocks.
Providence opened the evening with a 25-23 victory in game one,
but Rhody charged back to even the match in game two with a 25-19
triumph. The Friars re-claimed the lead in the fourth set with a
25-23 win. Rhody went on to force a fifth game as it downed PC
25-15, outhitting the Friars .300-.028.
In the fifth set, Providence jumped out to a 3-0 lead and would
later increase its advantage to 9-4, but the Rams would then go on
to win eight of the next 13 points to cut the Friars lead to 14-13,
but PC would go on to close out the match thanks to a 15-13
victory.
The match can be seen locally on a tape-delay basis on Cox
Sports (Ch. 3) on Wednesday, October 6, at 8:00 p.m. and again on
Saturday, October 9, also at 8:00 p.m.
Rhody returns to action on Friday as it steps back into league
play against George Washington. The match is set to begin at 7
p.m.
