PHILADELPHIA - Freshman Britta Baarstad
had a match-high 10 kills to lead the Rhode Island women's
volleyball team (14-14; 5-10 Atlantic 10) to a 3-0 victory over La
Salle Sunday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena.
With the win, URI swept the season series.
Fellow freshman Jill Anderson also
turned in a strong performance offensively as she tallied nine
kills on a match-high .600 attack percentage. Sophomore Annie Nelson also
chipped in with 21 assists.
Sophomore Ashley Tennant led
the way for the Rams defensively as she had a team-best 21
digs.
Rhody opened the match by jumping out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a
25-17 trimuph. URI opened up a 9-7 lead in the early going and
would later go on to win 11 of the next 14 points.
In the second set, URI claimed a 25-23 victory after it rallied
back from a 20-16 deficit. The Rams would then go on to claim the
match as it posted a 25-17, outhitting the Explorers .308-.051.
