PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior Kayla Wilson had a match-high 13 kills to lead the Rhode Island women's volleyball team (13-12; 4-8 Atlantic 10) to a 3-0 victory over Temple Friday night at McGonigle Hall.
Rhody's win over Temple was its second straight victory over the Owls to give the Rams the season sweep. URI's season sweep over Temple was its first season sweep against Temple since 1996.
The Rams' victory at Temple also was their first since 1996.
Senior Lauren McIntosh also reached double figures in kills as she finished with 10 terminations, while posting a match-high .714 attack percentage. Junior Candice Kolkka also chipped in with a match-high 33 assists.
URI opened the match with a 25-17 victory in game one. The Rams outhit .341-.030 in the opening set to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second frame, Rhody trailed 10-4, but the Rams charged back to cut the Owls' lead to 13-12. Temple maintained its lead until late in the set when the Rams tied the frame at 21 apiece. URI would then go on to win four of the next six points to earn a 25-23 victory.
Rhody closed out the Owls in the third set thanks to a .357 attack percentage as it posted a 25-21 win.
The Rams return to Kingston on Sunday as they welcome Xavier to Keaney Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
