Rhode Island Falls at #21/21 Temple

PHILADELPHIA -- Akeem Richmond came off the bench to score 11 points - including three 3-pointers - as Rhode Island dropped a 78-56 decision at #21/21 Temple.

Richmond now has 50 3-pointers on the season and is tied with Tyson Wheeler for the most 3FG by a Rhody freshman.

Rhody (19-5; 7-4 A-10) never led in a game that featured a record-setting shooting performance by the Owls (20-5; 8-2 A-10). Temple connected on 68.6% from the floor (35-51), including a scorching 74.1% in the first half.

A 9-0 midway through the first half broke it open for Temple, pushing them to an 18-8 lead with 12:47 left in the period. The Owls would extend their lead to as many as 22 points before taking a 43-23 advantage at the break.

The Rams would get as close as 16 points in the second half - after a Richmond trey made it 64-48 with 8:04 left.

Delroy James added 11 points and three steals while Keith Cothran - who was held out of the starting lineup due to a violation of team rules - added 10 points and three steals off the bench. Lamonte Ulmer led the team with six rebounds, while Marquis Jones dished out four assists.

For the game, URI shot just 30.5% (18-59) and was outrebounded 36-25.

Rhody returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 17 when it travels to face Saint Louis.
