KINGSTON, R.I. -- Akeem Richmond led three Rams in double figures as Rhode Island earned a 101-75 victory over Fordham on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, URI (20-6; 8-5 A-10) earned its third consecutive 20-win season.
After Fordham tallied the first two points of the game at the FT line, Rhody rattled off 19 unanswered points over a span of 4:48, taking a 17-point lead with 14:39 left in the half.
Rhody's offense would continue to roll, as the team connected from the inside and from beyond the arc. A Ben Eaves jumper with 1:39 to go in the half gave the Rams their biggest lead - 34 points - at 57-23. They would lead, 58-28, at the break, scoring 28 points in the paint while connecting on 3-of-8 from the outside.
In the second half, Fordham would outscore Rhode Island, 47-43, but the Kingston Rams would continue their hot hand from the floor. Richmond scored 12 of his 20 points in the second frame, leading a balanced box score for the home team. Every player who saw at least seven minutes of play reached the scoring column.
Lamonte Ulmer added 18 points and eight rebounds, while Will Martell also had 18 points to go along with five boards. Keith Cothran had a solid all-around game, with 13 points, six rebounds, seven assists, two blocks, and four steals.
For the game, URI shot 54.1% (40-74) from the floor, including a 7-of-20 shooting night from the outside. Rhode Island outrebounded Fordham, 39-32, and dished out 27 assists to its 40 field goals.
After a week off from competition, the Rams travel to Olean, N.Y. to take on St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Feb. 27. Game time is set for 2 p.m. and the game can be seen live locally on Cox Sports Television.
