Rhode Island Finishes Up Play at the Mauni Lani Invitational

Final Results

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- The University of Rhode Island opened its 2010 spring season with a 20th place finish at the 20th Annual Mauna Lani Invitational. The tournament was being played at Mauna Lani Golf Course (par 72-6,913 yards).

The Rams finished with a three-round, 54-hole total of 939. The Mauna Lani Invitational features many of the top teams in the country, including top-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 2 Stanford - which won the tournament - and No. 4 Florida State.

Bill McDonald was Rhody's top finisher, tying for 61st place overall. McDonald had a three-round total of 228 (78-76-74), carding a team tournament-best 74 in Friday's final day of competition.

Taylor Fontaine finished in a tie for 90th place. His three-round score was 235 (83-77-75), which also included his best round - 75 - in his final 18 holes of play.

Patrick Pelletier finished in a tie for 99th place, carding a 238 (82-75-81) in his three rounds. Branden Chicorka was tied for 108th place (84-83-77=244) and Ben Conway rounded out the Rhody golfers in a tie for 110th place (81-87-78=245).

URI returns to action at the Ron Smith Invitational in Dade City, Fla. from March 5-7.
