Rhody Falls to Temple 57-44 in the A-10 Semifinals

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Rhode Island men's basketball team (23-9) dropped a 57-44 decision to top-seeded Temple Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 Championship at Boardwalk Hall.

Senior Keith Cothran led the Rams offensively as he scored 11 points. Juniors Delroy James and Will Martell also chipped in with nine points apiece.

Temple took control early as it jumped out to a 15-2 lead at the 12:44 mark. Rhody responded as it went on a 10-3 run over the next four minutes to cut the Owls lead to just six points (18-12) with 8:44 remaining in the first half.

Rhody struggled in the closing eight minutes of the first half as it scored just five points and Temple went into the locker room with a 34-17 lead. The Rams shot just 23 percent in the opening period.

In the second half, Temple started strong once again and opened up a 23-point lead (41-18) with 16:21 remaining in the game.

Rhody trailed by double digits for much of the final 20 minutes. The Rams pulled to within 11 points with just under a minute to go in the game, but that was as close as URI would get.
