BOSTON - Freshman Erika Szymanski tossed a complete game to pick up her third win of the year and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Rhode Island softball team (16-24) to a 7-3 victory Thursday afternoon at the BU Softball Field.
Szymanski scattered six hits, allowed three runs and struck out one in the circle, while at the plate she went 2-for-4 with a home run and in the process picked up her 25th and 26th RBI of the year. The Delaware native is second on the team in RBIs.
Rhody opened the scoring in the top half of the second inning as it plated six runs on four hits. Sophomore Brittany Julich and senior Melissa Wilson each drove in a pair of runs to highlight the frame for the Rams.
Wilson leads the team with 28 RBI on the year.
Boston fought back with a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to cut Rhody's lead in half at 6-3, but in the top half of the seventh URI added another run to make the count 7-3 to secure the win thanks to a solo home run by Szymanski.
Rhody returns to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. as it takes on SIUE before heading to Saint Louis to play a pair of games with the Billikens on Sunday beginning at Noon.
