BROOKLINE, Mass. - The Rhode Island baseball team rolled past Northeastern, 15-5, on Wednesday afternoon at Friedman Diamond.
Sophomore Mike LeBel led the way for the Rams with three hits, two runs and two RBI while senior pitcher Dan Rossignol picked up his team-leading fifth win of the season. Rossignol has now pitched 10.2 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to March 23.
Seniors Zoey Angulo and Oliver Palmer as well as juniors Kyle Borden and Tom Coulombe and redshirt sophomore Dan Haverstick finished with a pair of hits each. Palmer also recorded two runs, two RBI and two walks while Haverstick drove in three and Coulombe scored four times.
Eight of Rhody's starters reached base at least twice as the Northeastern pitching staff issued 10 walks on the day, compared to just two by the Rams.
Rossignol - along with freshmen Mike Bradstreet, Rob Curran and Tyler Brennan, sophomore Anthony Pisani and juniors Brian Bodjiak, Dan Johnson and Gardner Leaver - combined to allow six hits while also striking out six batters.
The Huskies (6-13) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning but Rhody came back and plated six runs on five hits in the the bottom of the third. URI would stretch its lead to 11-3 before Northeastern got on the board again - with a pair of unearned runs - in the bottom of the seventh. Rhode Island went on to plate four more while allowing NU just one base runner over the final two innings to seal the 15-5 victory.
URI (12-13) returns to Bill Beck Field on Friday afternoon when it opens up a three-game Atlantic 10 series against No. 27 Charlotte. The Rams and Niners will play at 3 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and at Noon on Sunday.
