KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior
Tim Boyce collected the first national honor of his career on Tuesday as he was named
The College Baseball Blog's Co-Pitcher of the Week.
Boyce earned the honor after tossing his second straight complete-game shutout in URI's 6-0 win over Richmond. Against the Spiders, he fanned a career-high 10 batters while allowing just two singles on the day.
The Swansea, Mass. native also received A-10 Pitcher of the Week honors - for the second week in a row - after his performance vs. Richmond. A week prior to his victory over the Spiders, he threw a complete game three-hit shutout in Rhody's 7-0 win at St. Bonaventure.
Boyce has now pitched a program-best 25 consecutive scoreless innings - all in Atlantic 10 play - dating back to April 30. Over those 25 innings, he has surrendered just nine hits and three walks while striking out 22 batters and holding opponents to a .113 batting average.
Boyce shares TCBB's weekly honor with top-ranked Virginia's Robert Morey - who pitched six innings of no-hit ball against North Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
