Persaud Tallies First URI Goal as Rams Tie UNH 1-1

DURHAM, N.H. -- Nikkita Persaud tallied her first goal in a Rhode Island uniform in a 1-1 double overtime time at New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon.

The junior took an Alexis Veith long pass to the right flank, as she blasted a low shot to the right corner in the 64th minute, past UNH keeper Erica Correa. Persaud took two shots on the day.

In the 78th minute, the Wildcats scored the equalizer, as Cassie Guerra beat Rhody goalkeeper Sasha Reiber to the right upper corner, just under the crossbar.

It was a scoreless first 45:00 of play, with UNH holding a 4-0 edge in shots on-goal. In the second half, the Rams gained the momentum, outshooting the home Wildcats, 5-2. For the match, Kaylen Shimoda and Adrienne Ruhe Lischke each attempted three shots.

In the first overtime, URI's Reiber made two stops to help preserve the season opening tie on the road. She ended with seven saves, while yielding one goal. Her counterpart, Correa, made three stops and allowed a score.

Both teams attempted five corner kicks, and URI led the foul count, 13-10.

Rhode Island returns to action on Friday, Aug. 27, when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to face Holy Cross.
