KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's
volleyball team (6-3) collected its fifth win in the last six
matches as it defeated Marist 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Keaney
Gymnasium.
Sophomore Rachel Zarazan was
named tournament Most Valuable Player after she finished the
three-day event, averaging 2.64 kills and 2.00 digs per game.
Zarazan led the Rams offensively with a match-high 14 kills.
Teammates Britta Baarstad
and Lauren
McIntosh also reached double-figures in kills as they tallied
12 and 10 terminations, respectively.
Defensively, Kalyn Klaess led the
way with a match-high 15 digs.
Rhody claimed the first set 25-19, but the Red Foxes fought back
to claim a 25-21 victory in game two. URI reclaimed the lead in the
third frame, winning 25-22. In the third game URI outhit Marist
.242-.077.
Marist would no go quietly as it picked up a 25-12 victory in
game four, but the Rams closed out the Red Foxes with a 15-9 win to
claim the match.
The Rams return to action on Friday at 2:30 p.m. as they travel
to Brown.
