URI in Fifth Place After Day One of Adams Cup

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Rhode Island sits in fifth place after the first two rounds of the 17th Annual Adams Cup of Newport. The Rams shot 302 and 301 for a total of 603 through the first 36 holes of action, which took place on Monday at Newport National Golf Club (par 72 - 7244 yards).

Ben Conway leads the way for the Rams with a two-round total of 150 (+6). Conway shot rounds of 74 and 76, putting him in a tie for 16th place. Branden Chicorka is tied for 22nd, one stroke behind at 151 (+7). He fired a first round 75, followed by a 76 in the second round.

Patrick Pelletier is tied for 30th place (79-74=153), while John Kelly sits in a tie for 34th (74-80=154). Taylor Fontaine is tied for 53rd (82-75=157).

URI also has three golfers competing individually. Bill McDonald carded rounds of 77 and 79 (156), which puts him in a tie for 48th place. Jeffrey Ray is tied for 53rd (79-78=157), followed by Andrew Fiorenzano in 63rd place (81-78=159).

Central Florida, coached by URI golf alum Bryce Wallor, sits atop the team leaderboard, with a total of 581 (295-286). West Florida (298-292=590) is in second, followed by Central Connecticut in third (300-298-598). Connecticut is in fourth place (298-301) - just four shots ahead of the Rams.

UCF's Greg Eaton sits atop the leaderboard, thanks to a second-round 69. He is at 1-under for the tournament (74-69=143). He is the only golfer under par in the field.

The Adams Cup is a 54-hole tournament and is being contested at Newport National G.C. (par 72 - 7244 yards). The 17-team field (88 golfers) will complete play with Tuesday's 18-hole final round.
