Rhody Volleyball Sweeps Temple, 3-0

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (10-3; 1-0 Atlantic 10) extended its winning streak to seven matches as it swept Temple 3-0 Friday night at Keaney Gymnasium.

Junior Kayla Wilson lead the way for the Rams as she totaled a season-high 16 kills on .452 hitting. The Rams also received a strong offensive output from sophomore Annie Nelson, who dished out a match-high 36 assists.

Rhody led wire-to-wire in the first set and claimed a 25-13 victory. As a team, URI held Temple to just .059 hitting. Junior Kayla Wilson had a team-high six kills on .600 hitting. Sophomore Annie Nelson registered 14 assists.

In the second set, Rhody jumped out to a 5-2 lead, but Temple fought back as it notched nine of the next 15 points to tie the match at 11 apiece. The Rams responded to the Owls' run and took a 21-19 lead. URI closed out the set as it claimed four of the final seven points to earn a 25-22 victory.

Rhody closed out Temple in the third set with a 25-XX triumph. Both teams were tied at seven apiece, but the Rams went on to pick up the next six points to take a 13-7 lead it would not relinquish.

The Rams return to action tomorrow afternoon against La Salle at Keaney Gymnasium. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
