Final Results
SOUTH KENT, Conn. -- A second day surge paced Rhode Island to a sixth place finish at a rain-shortened Hartford Hawks Invitational, played at the Bull's Bridge G.C. (par 72 - 6,992 yards). The tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
The Rams shot 296 as a team - their best round of the season - moving up six spots after day one of play. They finished with a total of 608 (312-296). St. John's won the team title (294-291=585).
Patrick Pelletier finished in a tie for ninth place, carding a 1-under 71. It was his lowest round for URI since April 9, 2010 (New England Championship). The senior finished with a total of 148 (+4) after carding a 77 on Monday's first day of play.
Ben Conway shot a 2-over 74 on Tuesday, moving him into a tie for 24th place. He had a total of 153 (79-74) over the 36 holes of play. Branden Chicorka fired an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday, which put him into a tie for 31st. He had a 36-hole total of 155 (83-72).
John Kelly tied for 34th overall (76-80=156), while Taylor Fontaine rounded out the URI golfers, in a tie for 48th place (80-79=159). Hartford's DJ Lantz was the individual medalist, carding back-to-back rounds of 71 (142, -2).
Rhode Island returns to action Oct. 4-5 when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Wolfpack Invitational.
