STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Rhode Island finishes the regular season at the Rutherford Intercollegiate this weekend, looking to build team momentum heading into the Atlantic 10 Championship.
Rhody will be going against a field that includes Binghamton, Bucknell, Connecticut, Delaware, George Mason, Long Island, Loyola Chicago, St. John's, St. Thomas - Minnesota, Towson, Yale and host Penn State. Representing Rhode Island in the 13-team field will be
Luke Stennett,
Tyler Bruneau,
Tony Liu,
Aidan O'Donovan and
Josiah Tong. The Rams held qualifying play within practices this week to determine the team's lineup Â
This is the fourth straight year the Rams are playing the Rutherford. In each of the last three seasons, URI has finished fourth or tied for fourth in the final team standings. Rhody also has had the individual champion in two of the last three years. In 2023, Bryson Richards was the medalist, while last Spring
Luke Stennett won his first career tournament, topping the 62-player field by shooting 6-under par.
In 2025, Stennett finished two strokes ahead of Long Island's Justin LaRue and three ahead of LIU's Arjun Singh Bhatia. After playing in the final round together at last year's tournament, Stennett and Singh Battle will play together along with Delaware's Arsit Areephun in the opening round Saturday.
"This is a very important tournament for us," Rhode Island head coach
Gregg Burke said. "We've had the medalist two of the last three years, but we've never really played well there as a team. Secondly, we've had a very disappointing Spring thus far. So much so we had everyone on the team qualify for spots this week. Finally, we have a quick turnaround to the A-10 championship. We need to be playing our very best if we hope to contend."
Teams will play two rounds on Saturday and a single round Sunday. For Rhode Island, it is the final tune up before the Atlantic 10 Championship, which runs from April 27-29 at the Grand Cypress Links Course in Orlando.
